How To Style Bold Pants - Look #1
"Those are some crazy-ass pants." My husband is not known for his ability to hold back comment. But when I whipped these paper-bag waist, graphic jogger pants out of a shopping bag, truthfully, I knew what was coming. Shame on me for walking right into it. But what can I say? I loved the color combo and they feel like pajamas, so I bought them and decided to think about how to actually wear them in public later.
I know more than one of us has made this type of aspirational purchase -- you see it on a hanger in the store and think, I like those colors, I like that print. What to wear it with? I'll bother with that little detail later.
Well, the day of reckoning is at hand, my fashionable friends. Go to your closet, pick out that whack pair of pants you never wear, and we'll walk through this together.
I decided to break my "How to Wear Bold (aka crazy-ass) Pants" into a few parts. Basically because I have so much material (pairs of crazy-ass pants) in my closet. I've come up with a few styling tips based on each look. So, here goes analysis of Look #1:
Keep it simple. I paired these pants with my new, trusty, sleek black bodysuit. I repeated the black palette with the cage heels. Which brings me to ...
Keep the color palette for top and shoes the same. Here it's black. But you might have a pair of super bright coral pants. Try a mellow shade of turquoise on top and a shoe with turquoise in it on the bottom. On your upper half, a black, simple top is the easiest way to go. Doesn't have to be a bodysuit. We all have a black t-shirt in our wardrobes. That'll work. The sleekness of this top compensates for the volume on the bottom. Which brings me to ...
Fitted on top balances volume on bottom. Volume on bottom balances fitted on top. Say it with me 5 times. Very good. Finally ...
If you're feeling super adventurous, go bold with an accessory, especially if your top and shoe palette is black. Try a funky accessory in a color that compliments the pants. Here I completed the whole look with a bold, bright turquoise necklace (for sale in my Poshmark closet, click here).
Bottom line, have fun with it. Give those crazy-ass pants a little love. They've been hanging in your closet long enough.
